Re: I'm going To Wrestlemania. Please advise
Agreed there. This card is looking better than any Mania for years. Each one has one or two matches that look promising, but as much as we love Michaels v Angle or Edge v Foley or even Undertaker v Michaels, the rest of the card is always pretty bad. X-Seven to XIX were great, XX was alright, but after that? Nope. You picked a good year to get lucky!

Here’s a little history of how this came to fruition. My buddy and I were watching The Elimination Chamber naturally getting excited for mania. We had already planned a trip to Phoenix to watch spring training baseball for that same weekend (we live in San Diego). I mentioned that we had to find a place to watch Mania completely forgetting that it was in Phoenix. Then the light bulb went on and we drunkenly bought the best tickets we could.
Every year I imagine that Wrestlemania will be the best ever but deep down I know the card just doesn’t stand up to some of the past years. This year is different. I honestly can say that I’m looking forward to every match. Some of the best Manias in the past have had crappy matches Mania 21: Big Show v. Akebono, Mania XXIV: Chavo v. Kane, etc. Lucky dog. I've always thought about moving to San Diego (rumored to be the most beautiful, comfortable place to live in the US), but it seems to pricey. Kind of jealous. Anyway, are you close enough to bring your chairs home. Thats a little incentive they give to the big money buyers. A....chair.

San Diego isn’t as expensive as many people think. There are a lot of cool communities that are affordable and unique. And yes, the city is pretty amazing in most parts. It’s 75 degrees and sunny today.
Me and my buddy are taking a slow last drive through the desert and will definitely be taking our chairs home.
I agree with you Chux. Wrestlemania is good every year but hasn’t been amazing since XX in my opinion. I thought XX was pretty awesome with Jericho/Christian, The Handicapped match, Eddie/Angle, The cruiserweight open and the last great main event in HBK/HHH/Benoit. I also really did enjoy XXIV but there were weak moments.
I love that random years tend to be the best.

I agree that HHH/Benoit/HBK was great but Edge/Undertaker was equally as thrilling I thought. Whilst we expected a thriller from the triple threat, it's fair to say that Edge/Undertaker delivered way more than expected. There was even some guys thinking Edge might win that night as the match unfolded, only Orton and HBK have come close to doing that in an Undertaker match which is some company I think.

Re: I'm going To Wrestlemania. Please advise
I would agree that most of the Wrestlemanias in recent years have had one great match that outshone the others and the rest of the matches for the most part good. But I would put Wrestlemania 24 pretty close to up there with the biggest and most extravagant of all time; mostly because of Michaels/Flair but not just because of it. It also had the Edge/Undertaker match Special spoke of, a good Money In The Bank, and a surprise with Orton retaining. Plus it had the whole feel of a tribute to one of the greatest ever.

Re: I'm going To Wrestlemania. Please advise
Outside MITB I didn't think much of the action at Mania XXIV, but it really did have a great atmosphere. Something to do with it being open air I think. Usually that could make it suffer, letting the crowd noise escape, but it still kept a lot of that big night feel.
Some of the early WrestleManias didn't have that feel at all, they looked like standard shows, empty seats everywhere and just overall a bit blah. Extravagance is definitely something they've worked on over the last couple of decades.

TheDude1.
I would like to hear an account of your day at Wrestlemania. The experience, the atmosphere, etc.

We had a sign that said The Heartbreak Kid has left the building, Thanks Shawn!
I know I know...cheesy as all hell.

That's pretty awesome given his speech the next night. Well predicted!

Re: I'm going To Wrestlemania. Please advise
I read his book Heartbreak and Triumph just before the event and really enjoyed all the little details about storyline planning. It was very nostalgic for me because I was a kid and a total Mark in the early to mid 90s. I had totally forgotten how they gave him a slight Elvis gimmick with the "leaving the building" announcement and Heartbreak Hotel "talk show." Those things were such small nuances that wielded great results. When he turned face and the mid show announcements stopped, I started to miss HBK as a heel which in my opinion was him at his best.
I loved the Iron man match and boyhood dream story and I loved the last 8 years of his career, but my fondest memories will always be of Shawn as a heel, his original DX run and him tossing Marty through the the barber shop window and becoming the heart break kid, the best thing that ever happened to the IC title.

Extravagance is definitely something they've worked on over the last couple of decades. I agree that there is nothing like a Wrestlemania atmosphere; and that it adds a special something to the show. But maybe it's cause I'm such an old school fan, but I a actually like that "standard show" feel of some of the early Wrestlemanias. Especially Wrestlemania 2. It just seems nostalgic and old school to me; yet I can still tell a difference between that and any other card the WWF had in 1986. It's still above anything else from that time atmosphere wise. It's just its own kind of special.
